Deer Carcass Removal

The Township has a contract with a third party that removes deceased deer during normal business hours. It usually takes 24-48 hours for carcass to be removed. Multiple calls for the same deceased animal do not expedite the pickup, please be patient with the process.  

When a deer carcass is on PUBLIC property, anyone can report it to the Montclair Police Department or Animal Control and a pickup request will be forwarded to the removal company. It usually takes 24-48 hours for carcass to be removed.

When a deer carcass is on PRIVATE property, the homeowner is financially responsible for the carcass removal. The homeowner can report the carcass to Montclair Police Department or Animal Control and we provide the homeowner information to the removal company. The removal company will contact the homeowner for their billing information before coming to pick up the carcass. It usually takes 24-48 hours for carcass to be removed.

Contacting Animal Control for deceased deer: 

Please use the online form to report deceased deer, stating the exact address the deer is in front of to facilitate proper pickup. 

If the deceased deer is lying in traffic/travel lanes of any Montclair road, residents are urged to immediately call the Animal Control at 862-621-9113 to speak with an Animal Control Officer or call Montclair Police Department at 973-744-1234 for immediate response. The deceased deer will be moved out of travel lanes to ensure driver/vehicle safety and reported to the third party carcass removal entity. It usually takes 24-48 hours for carcass to be removed.
